Inclusion

What is Inclusion?
Inclusion in early years settings means ensuring that every child feels valued, supported and able to participate fully in the life of the setting.

Laxfield Preschool celebrates every child, embracing differences in backgrounds, abilities, religions and cultures. We aim to provide an inclusive environment which gives equal opportunities for learning and development, removing or reducing barriers that might prevent a child from accessing activities or experiences.

We also work hard to ensure our setting is inclusive for all children to access the same environment, experiences & learning opportunities. We work closely with outside agencies & professionals to ensure children are receiving the best start in life & supporting their development where possible to reach their full potential.

How do we ensure Inclusive Practice?

  • Valuing Diversity- Recognising & celebrating differences in children’s backgrounds, experiences & abilities. We embed this through our topic approach to curriculum by celebrating events from all over the world.

  • Equity vs Equality- Targeting support to individual needs rather than treating all children identically.

  • Reflective Practice- Staff are considerate of own opinions & ensuring all practice is non-bias.

  • Celebrating families- Parent partnership is vital to us & begins right at the very first visit to Preschool. Working closely with families, respecting & supporting differences enables us to continue consistency between home & Preschool.

  • Removing barriers- Whether it be physical, or strategies, we aim to remove any barrier which could effect a child’s learning experience.

  • Promoting belonging- Encourage positive peer relationships, fostering the term “we”, rather than “us” & “them”.
